  OVC Support Program Progress
  Kenya

G.R.A.C.E Africa is excited to highlight the progress we have made in the first year of implementing the Early Childhood Development (ECD) project that has been generously supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the year, G.R.A.C.E engaged 14 partner organizations in identifying Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their caregivers in readiness for enrollment in the ECD program. This program aims to ensure that OVC are served with a package of essential services, and their caregivers are empowered to provide better care to OVC in the long run.

Achievements:

  • 1,113 OVC have been recruited through active participation of the 14 sub partners.
  • 12 sub partners received computers, printers, digital cameras and recorders, and television monitors for implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the OVC Support program.
  • G.R.A.C.E staff have been trained in Monitoring and Evaluation, Human Resource Management, Compliance issues and Sub-grant Management.
  • 90 youth have been recruited as teachers and assistant teachers. So far 89 have been trained in Structured Play.

Activities for 2010

  • Enrolling OVC into ECD centres
  • Training caregivers and community members on psychosocial support, entrepreneurship, HIV Prevention and food security.
