GRACE held “Integrated Training” workshops for 63 participants in the southern region (Accra) as well as for 47 in the northern region (Tamale) of Ghana. The Tamale group urged us to hold follow-up gatherings ("durbars") to inform and win the support of community elders and leaders in the effort to address HIV/AIDS prevention and care. This approach to “building advocacy and constituency” was key to their being successful in getting buy-in from community leaders to implement the action plans resulting from the initial workshop.

The durbars took place respectively in the four regions of the northern sector – upper east, upper west, northern and Brong-Ahafo regions. It brought together political leaders at the regional level, regional heads of departments, CBOs, traditional authorities, religious leaders, in-school and out-of-school youth leaders and members, and the public.
